AMAT Alive and Singing
The Alive and Singing choir was founded in 2017. It started as a 6 week project leading up to Christmas 2017, when the members of the group made up of residents and staff performed to their peers. The project was a success, resulting in the members asking for it to be extended which it has been with available funding.
Alive and Singing is a group that focuses on improving confidence, self esteem and improving personal and social skills whilst having fun in a safe environment. Members of the group have all stated that their involvement in Alive and Singing has had a significant impact on their wellbeing and confidence in a positive way – it has also helped with forging meaningful relationships and understanding and identifying with others that they may not have done before joining this group.
The group continue to attend weekly sessions to learn new songs and as we have progressed and improved basic dance routines! The group host regular performances based around different musical themes. Our biggest performance to date was Christmas 2019 – held in a local venue, performed to a ticketed audience of family, friends and strangers where members of Alive and Singing performed as a group and as soloists – this has been one of the biggest outcome markers to date, as when the group started – all were adamant that they did not want to perform by themselves.
Alive and Singing is facilitated by Cat Bloomfield – a local professional musician and song writer, with a background in personal development and experience of working in the homeless sector.
Alive and Singing is an inclusive group and all residents, staff, volunteers and community members are encouraged to attend – we believe that this is the reason for the success of the group – all members are equal with a shared aim to perform to the best of their ability and to support each other and have fun as a group.
