Floating Support is a Medway Council commissioned service to help people in their own homes. Our goal is to help people live independently and well, and we understand there is more to this than having somewhere to live. Floating Support is available to:
- Help manage tenancies.
- Help obtain the support people need in other areas of their lives.
- Reduce the risk of homelessness.
- Reduce social isolation.
- Increase confidence.
Offered as two different services, both of which are here for anyone going through a difficult time.
Temporary Accommodation (TA) Floating Support
Short term support for those living in temporary accommodation, helping with Housing Benefit forms, debt information and signposting to further information. If more support is needed a referral can be made to our generic floating support team.
Generic Floating Support
Longer term support for clients living in their own homes. This can include:
Housing: Homechoice applications, addressing issues in rented accommodation.
Debt: Budgeting, contacting debt agencies, getting a bank account.
Benefits: Helping people make sure they get everything they are entitled to.
Admin: Help filling in forms and speaking to companies.
Mental & Physical health: GP registration, referrals to services that will help.
Loneliness: Finding like-minded people and activities that suit people’s lives and needs.
Drug & Alcohol use: Finding services to help manage addiction problems.
Use of time: Accessing education, training, or volunteering opportunities.
Clients can be supported for up to 18 months; but this can be extended in some cases.
How Floating Support works
We understand every person and their needs are different. Once a referral is with AMAT one of our Floating Support Workers will arrange a visit. At the visit we ask the client to share their goals and with help from the Floating Support Worker a full support plan will be made. We keep in touch with clients in ways that suit them, checking progress and celebrating achievements. We work with different organisations, services, and charities to make sure clients get the help they need, and once all goals are completed we will ask the client if they are happy to close the case. If someone needs help in the future they can refer to Floating Support again.
